Hope Everyone Survived the Holiday!

Monday, November 30, 2009

We had a nice time. 12 for dinner and that was just right. We had a 27 pound turkey and between what we sent home with guests and what we've been eating nonstop, the last of it should be finished up in sandwiches in hubby's lunch this week. I did freeze the carcass and wings, so there will be turkey soup on a cold day!

My grandson stayed the night with us so his mom could do the Black Friday sales. I definitely think I got the better deal! I did shop online Friday for a new printer because ours died, but that was it. My grandson and I cut out pictures from the store ads of toys he would like and glued them to a letter for Santa. He just turned 3 a month ago, so he isn't writing, yet.

Friday night my hubby, son, and I watched movies and ate take out. We just couldn't do more turkey at that point!!!

On Saturday, the mailman brought me a package. It was from Carin who had a give away on her blog, Conceived Without Regard for Reason or Reality in celebration of her 4 year blogoversary. I entered and won these 4 great patterns!  I am really psyched about the stockings, love the wallets, and am anxious to try the teacher pattern. I haven't got little ones anymore and no teacher friends, but the technique looks very interesting and in a few years my grandson will be off to school. With his energy, teacher gifts may come in handy! As for the quilt, I am seriously thinking of turning it into a tree skirt. Seems my mom had purchased me a gift card for JoAnn's before she passed. I found it in her purse still attached to the cardboard backing. Since she passed November 7 and my birthday was the 14th and I have two brothers who think buttons are attached with Elmer's glue and hems are held up with staples, I think it must have been for me. My husband just made a stand for the Christmas tree so that we can get a little smaller one that won't block the walkway and yet still have height and now the skirt I have is too small. So, put the stand, gift card, and pattern together and it seems like serendipity to me! I probably won't get it finished for this year and may have to use a sheet, but who knows?

Then Saturday night Amy and Ed, a couple of old friends of ours, dropped by with their two kids. They were in from out of town. They lived across the street from my mom who babysat my son when he was little. Their daughter is a year younger than my Nick and their son is a few years younger than her. My mom watched them all and they are like brothers and sister. When my son was 4 we moved to a new home and soon after this couple bought a house across the street from us! So our kids are pretty close and their kids called my mom "Nana" and my dad (who passed away in May) "Papa". Amy's mom is a crafter and Amy was so sweet to bring me this quillow and pillow her mom had made. I tend to be cold blooded, so these will come in handy.

Well, I hope to be getting started on SOMETHING crafty of my own, though I am still not feeling very creative. This tryptophan hangover sure isn't helping!

May your bobbin always be full!

Hi Melissa,
Oh yeah, still here and still eating left-overs...yikes...lol! Tonight it was the ham, tomorrow I will finish up the turkey by making turkey salad! The kids are pretty tired of thanksgiving left-overs so it will probably be take out tomorrow for them...rofl! Your grandson looks like a real cutie; should have posted his picture of his Santa card...bet it was cute. Well, your holiday sounds pretty busy and that was probably a good thing; staying busy. Don't wear yourself out. lol...
Big hugs for you
Pam

Thanks for sharing a little of your holiday. It sounds like you had a lovely time. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your tree skirt when you get it done.
