Hubby and I were really looking forward to this weekend as a chance to get things done. As usual, we planned to do far more than we could have ever gotten done! But we are moving forward.
Hubby borrowed his father-in-law’s bobcat and began filling in the utility trench in our back yard. We are going to have a landscaper come in, but he just had to get out there and play with his toy!
While he did that, I painted. Now the kitchen and dining room are painted.
Once I finished that, I set to tearing up the carpet in what will be my sewing room. Then I arranged my furniture as I think I will be keeping it.
I have my sewing space at the far end and a sitting area in front of the fireplace. My kitchen cart cutting table is on wheels and can be pulled into the open area when needed.
Yep, there really is a fireplace behind all that! Believe it or not, that isn’t even all of the carpet. I put some in the garage.
Hubby didn’t sit down and rest, either. He worked on installing new lighting and began putting on the wood trim.
See the neat half door he built to keep the dogs in the laundry room while we aren’t home? If you don’t know why we needed this, you haven’t got dogs! It will be stained to match the trim.
Well, back to work tomorrow. I need a rest!

Lots of work but it sure is going to be beautiful!
O, you did a lot!! I love the door for the dogs... I know, I have a dog!
That's why I kept half a wall as room divider in my living room/kitchen. Otherwise he would play with water through the whole living room and kitchen LOL
It's looking great!!! Love the half door!
Exciting things are going on over there....
I am in awe of your beautiful home and all the hard work you guys are doing!! I love the half door idea.. with three dogs in the house, I can certainly use one of those!
Wow! A fireplace in your sewing room...how very cool! I love the half door...great idea!! Everything is coming along nicely...you are doing a great job!!
Hahahaha! Imagine going back to work so you can get a rest! Lol, Anyhoo the work you two have been doing is really starting to shape up your home; going to be really fantastic when you are finished. Ahhhhh, I love the hard wood floors; carpet - not so much...looking forward to how your carpeted floors will look when done. The carpet does provide warmth. Did you install radiant heating in any of your floors? just wondering. Mel, I'm living vicariously through your home decorating experience as you are doing that which I dreamed of doing. AWESOME job you're doing!
hugzz
Looks like a lot of work, and well worth it. What a great sewing room you'll have! The place looks so beautiful.
Google Reader is doing some weird things. Missed this post altogether. My you have been busy. Lookng good though!
I know exactly why you have a new door for the dogs!!! You have been so busy and so productive and I love the bobcat!! That's a real man's toy!!
Whew! Makes me tired just reading about all that work! Ripping out carpet is hard and dusty work. The paint looks really good though. :)
It looks to me that you got quite a lot accomplished, Melissa! Doesn't it feel great when you can tick some things off of the list? I love the colors you chose, and your kitchen cabinets are AWESOME! What are you going to be doing with the floor in your sewing/sitting room? Hardwood? Can't wait to see. And yes, I DEFINITELY know why you need that half door...maybe I should look into getting one of those for my laundry room! LOL! Still haven't replaced the couch yet!
XOXO,
Cyndi
I bet you will be so happy when that is finished :)
